ALBUMIN - INJECTION
(al-BYOU-min)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Albumin, Albuminar, Buminate, Plasbumin
USES: Albumin is the portein portion of the blood. It is improtant in maintaining blood volume. It is used in the treatemnt of shock, burns or low blood protein to temporarily correct or prevent a blood volume deficiency.
HOW TO USE: This medication is administered by injection into a vein. The dose and frequency of use of this medication will be determined by your condition and respnose to therapy.
Follow your doctor's instructions clsoely and be sure to ask any questions you may have about this therapy.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medicatoin is generally well tolerated. However, allergic recations have been reported. Discontinue use and notify your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms while taking this medication: fever, chills, flushing, hives, skin rash, itching, headache, nausea, breathing difficulty, rapid heart rate. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: haert disease, kidney disease, liver problems, blood disorders, anemia, allergies (especially to protein).
This medication should be used only if clealry needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benfeits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison conrtol center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Blood tests and other laboratory tests will be done frequently during therapy to monitor the effectiveness of this medication and to prevent side effects.
MISSED DOSE: It is important that each dose be used as directed. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedlue. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store this medciation at room temperature as directed. Do not use if this contains particles. Cehck the expiration date on the label and properly discard of any unused medication after that time.
